Nine Years, New Gears

The babies born the year Sweden last time had, and won, a big national tournament on home ground have started school now. A lot has changed since then.

Oscar Carlén

Facebook, iPhones, and Akon has become a part of our everyday life and Sweden is not longer a top handball nation. After 9 long years since the final in the European Championship that is called the last game played in Sweden’s golden era, it is time again for Sweden to host the World Championship.

After 9 years, Sweden might be ready to start again with a new generation of world players on the pitch. Oscar Carlén (SG Flensburg-Handewitt), 22, son of legendary player Per Carlén is tonight leading Sweden in the opening game against Chile. The game is on and I hope it would be possible to see a tournament effort similar to what the heroic Swedish women’s team did when qualifying for the final in the European Championship a few weeks ago.

Heja Sverige!
